Phase Standard Model 5000 Upgrade

GREATLY ENHANCE THE PERFORMANCE  OF YOUR MODEL 5000

For the Model 5000 Digital Phase Standard (serial numbers less than 434), total harmonic distortion, digital output noise, amplitude flatness with frequency, output current capability, and phase accuracy can be greatly improved with a factory upgrade.  This upgrade includes rewiring of the chassis to include noise suppressing baluns, the replacement of several printed circuit boards and power transformers, and upgrading the internal firmware of both the main unit and the IEEE-488 interface.

The upgrade becomes very noticeable when performing tests on phase sensitive, zero-crossing devices such as phase meters.  For these devices, odd harmonic distortion and noise introduce phase errors which in some cases exceeded the uncertainty specifications of the Model 5000 itself.   With the upgraded unit, an input of 100mV to one channel of a phase meter and 100V to the other channel usually results in no more than 20m° of uncertainty which is due to both the upgraded Model 5000 uncertainty and the uncertainty introduced by the noise and distortion.

When the upgrade has been performed, the Model 5000 conforms to the specifications of the Model 5500.  These specifications are identical to those of the Model 5500-2 with the exception that the maximum frequency is 100kHz in lieu of 200kHz.
